Return to Football: The Combination Cup

Friday 5th March 2021

Rothbury’s road map back to football is a little clearer as the club looks to come out of Covid lockdown and return to Northern Alliance action.

With the League season impossible to complete, the Alliance has come up with Divisional Cup tournaments to give local sides game time to look forward to.

The Reds have been drawn in Combination Cup Group 1 with Bedlington, Felling Magpies and Forest Hall. Group 2 is made up by FC United of Newcastle, Haltwhistle Jubilee, Hebburn Town u23 and Whitburn and Cleadon. Group 3 contains Cramlington United, Gosforth Bohemians, Hexham and Seaton Burn. Group 4 is Prudhoe YC, Seaton Burn, Wallsend Boys Club and Whitley Bay SC. The sides will play each other home and away and the winners of Group 1 will meet the winners of Group 4 in the semi-finals, with the winners of Groups 2 and 3 obviously meeting in the other.

The dates for games have not been finalised yet as the County Cup competitions are being restarted and Rothbury are still involved in the Northumberland FA Minor Cup, but are scheduled for Saturdays and Wednesdays throughout April.

The Alliance hopes that the Finals should be played in May 2021.
